Hut Build Updates

In 2023 we are starting the build on our new Scout Hut. See the latest updates below

• • •

  • Unofficial opening and AGM

Please come and join us at 11.30am on Sunday 9th November 2025 for our unofficial opening of the hut, and a brief AGM

    Details can be found here

  • It’s almost there!!

I’m exhausted after laying the path, but the hut is really close now! Unofficial opening soon!

  • White walls and flattened mounds

It’s been a few weeks since I have updated you all on the progress of the hut. The really good news is that we are now secure, almost fully plastered, have flooring lined up and have even started painting!

The amazing Dave has been landscaping our mountain to allow the natural vegetation to recolonize, and we may even add some local wild flower seed to encourage some local insects and wildlife.

Inside the hut is turning from pink to white as we paint the walls, and a big thank you to Crown Oxford for the paint donation. The electrics are going in this week, and the plumbing kit has all been ordered.

We still have lots to do. If you would like to help in anyway, from shifting boxes, painting walls or some serious landscaping just get in touch with Ben or Paul.

  • Getting plastered!

Quick update, but some of the internal walls are being plastered and the windows are going in.  Progress!!

  • We are getting going again

It’s been a while, but we are excited to be putting up the internal walls and trying to make it watertight. Thanks a lot to everyone who has supported us so far.

You can see the foyer, toilets, kitchen and storage going on, and the mezzanine for even more storage.

    More updates soon!

  • Scouts at the Pub (AGM)

Please come and meet the scout group at the White Horse on 22nd Jan 2025. This is our opportunity for our AGM but it is also a chnace to meet the people a little more informally.

All the info needed is on the link above, and see you there!

  • We have raised the roof!

After a big push, we are really pleased to have the roof in the hut.

This is an enormous milestone as we will soon be watertight. The next step will be windows and doors, and then we crack on with the internal fit out.

If you know of a company that can pledge to our campaign please get in touch, or follow us on https://www.spacehive.com/stonesfield-scout-hut-and-community-hub#/idea

  • Make 2025 a year to learn a new skill and make a difference.

1st Stonesfield Scouts need support from the village to keep the group getting better and better!

You may not know some of us personally (even though it is a small village) but I bet you have seen our groups in some way or another, be it on Remembrance Day or at our annual Duck Race.  We give young people opportunities to make a difference to the community and be engaged with the natural world, but we need to bolster our volunteer numbers.  We are looking for people who can give a little bit of time to help run some of the sessions or to be part of our trustees.   We are all lovely people, and are also all volunteers, and getting new ideas and fresh views is an essential part of what we do.  We also have some seasoned volunteers who are looking to take a step back and we need to ensure the group keeps going.

The Scout Organisation provides a great way for you to learn a new skill yourself. Our Leaders have become trained kayakers, climbers and bushcrafters, but we are also looking for locals to share their interests with the group.  This could be through nature walks, guided tours, or even a craft you are a dab hand at.

You can find an overview of what we do here.

Come and find out what you can gain from being part of our group, and how we can gain from knowing you.  We are having a social on January 15th 2025 at 7:30pm at the White Horse Pub in Stonesfield.  We look forward to seeing you then.

  • Raising the roof with local support

It’s been a little stop start, but we are pleased to say that we are starting again and putting up our roof!

We have been supported by Stonesfield Charitable Trust, and are massively grateful for this local group for their donation. It is making an enormous difference.

We are also crowdfunding. Pledge and allow us to claim gift aid at https://www.spacehive.com/stonesfield-scout-hut-and-community-hub

The big steels have proved a challenge down our little lane, but the fact that we won’t need internal supporting walls will give us more space for scouting!

  • Duck race 2024

Thanks for all the support for this year’s Duck Race.

    See you next year!!

  • What a way to raise some money!!

Please share and sponsor Samuel. This amazing young man is raising money for the scouts by doing a triathlon. In the mountains. Aged 8. What a legend.

  • More than you can see. Drains are in!!

Just a short update this week. The weather gods have been on our side (for once) and allowed the team to install the drains and do almost all the underground work. The next step is the concrete slab and the walls.

We have also started our latest (and last?) round of fundraising. We are looking for 10 donations and grants of £5000 to take us to the end. By breaking them down we hope that we can find them all a little more manageable.

If you think you can help get in touch, and see you soon for the Duck Race on 13th July !!!

    🦆🏁⚜️

  • It’s starting to take shape. Can your company help?

How exciting! The foundations are in and the slab will be going in soon. It’s always a big milestone to be out of the ground.

The Beavers, Cubs and Scouts are looking forward to having a new home. We are still looking for some more funds.

If you know your company sponsor local projects or will give some time to help us please let us know.

We only need 9 x £5k donations in value or time equivalent (less with Gift Aid) to make the hut a complete reality.  At the moment we can make a shell but not be inside for winter. Please help us give the kids a home!!!

See you soon for ducks. 🦆🏁⚜️

  • The Hut is coming, and we need your help.

With the better weather approaching, we are excited to say our amazing builder is getting ready to get the floor, shell and roof on the hut. This will make it look more like a hut and less like a big hole. (Think weeks, not months! Eeeek 😬)

This is amazing, but we need the help of the community.

If you know any local company or business who would be willing to help us (time, 1st or 2nd fix materials etc) then please approach them on our behalf. We will take all the help they are willing to offer. Electrics. Plumbing. Flooring. Painting. Shelving. Landscaping. You name it, count us in.

The site will also be busier in the day time. Please be patient with us.

If you want to get in contact with us please email Ben on chair@stonesfield-scouts.org.uk or Paul on scouthut@stonesfield-scouts.org.uk

We are all volunteers on this amazing project so please be nice, be considerate, and remember this is going to house Stonesfield Scouts for the next generation, or three…

  • Bingo-a-go-go

A massive thanks to everyone who came and supported the Scouts tonight at Bingo. £500+ raised, and the final tally may even take us over £600. Really great to see everyone involved. Have a great Christmas and see you in 2024.

  • A surefooted start (we have footings!)

Many people have said that once. We have the footings down we will cross the big barrier, and I’m pleased to see that the footings are now down!

We excavated a bit more than we thought and we’ve had to have bigger footings than we anticipated. But we’re now there. There’s going to be a break over Christmas and in the new year to allow the weather to pass and the builders to clean their wellies, but it’s great to see the progress we are making.

The builders have been scraping back the worst of the clay from the track and, although the top later is a little muddy, there is good Stonesfield stone beneath it. If you are using the path please ensure you wear wellies or boots, but it isn’t too bad (we still have Scouts down there each Thursday, so we know what it is like!)

At the end of phase one it’s a good time to remind people that we are all volunteers running the build, and that it is all from grants and donations. We have had to spend more of the footings than we had hoped, and so we are still on the lookout for some more grants and support. Please let us know if you can help, or know someone who can.

Merry Christmas to all, and see you at the Bingo on Friday!

  • Mind your step(s)

Now that the December weather has arrived, we ask dog walkers and ramblers to don their wellies and take care. The builders have done a great job of scraping back the surface mud, and you can see that they are about to start mixing the footings.

We have also repaired the bottom two steps on the path to the field. They may take some time to bed in, but they should provide some surer footings for walkers.

See you soon for Santa and Bingo!

  • It’s beginning to take shape!

The soil is out, the footings almost done and the footprint can be seen. It’ll be a great space for generations of scouts. Thanks to all the positive comments and to the builders for keeping the site and access  as clear as they can.

    Footings being dug.
    Some cool fossils as well!
    Nice clear access 😊
  • Work has started!

Work on the hut has started! This is very exciting, and we look forward to posting here. We have had to clear some more space to allow the build to go up and to nestle it in our woods.

It will be muddy down there for a while, but please be patient with us and the builders. It will be better in the end.

We are still after additional funds. If you can help then get in touch.

  • Celebration and AGM
